Swedish violinist Karin Hellqvist will premiere "tzéréo" for violin and electronics on 11 speakers by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete at the 14th of February at Bernaola Zikloa in the Musikagileak concert season in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The piece was commissioned by Helge Ax:son Johnsons Stiftelse and the support of Konstnärsnämnden in Sweden.

Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete has received a commission from Helge Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse (Sweden) to compose a new piece for Swedish violinist Karin Hellqvist.

The premiere will take place in February 2026, at the Musikagileak Concert Cycle 25-26 in San Sebastian-Donostia in Basque Country.

NABÔKÔ is new audiovisual building toy created and designed by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete.

NABÔKÔ is an inclusive, intuitive and open-ended building toy made of 24 non-geometrical figures that represent each a musical note. Everybody can enjoy the liberty of free imagination by creating a sculpture and composing a sound inside this new universe where there is no right or wrong, but only free improvisation to create and hear your own figures.

Critic (extract) from the concert:

​

Finally, the Zukan Trio contributed the most important piece of the program, serehaganades, by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete, an extensive composition for accordion, txistu, percussion, and electronics in which the onomatopoeia expressed by the instrumentalists' voices and others murmured through the speakers generated a strange humus magnified by music that seems to coil and abolish all directionality, as if intentionality lay, for example, in the scratching of the güiro. This continuous sound of strummed wood, along with that of instruments that seemed to breathe heavily, was slowly infused with a strange and attractive phonetic poetry. The performers, like the rest of the group, devoted themselves to bringing out all the greatness in this music.

The Basque formation Trio Zukan (Maria Zubimendi, Gorka Catediano & Jon Ansorena) premiered serehaganades, a new work from Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete for percussion, micro-tonal accordion, txistu (Basque traditional wind instrument) and electronics.

The premiere took place at the concert cycle Sound Spaces the 2nd of November, 2024, at Palladium, in Malmö, Sweden.

​

The work was a co-commission of Trio Zukan (Basque Country), Sound Spaces and Kulturrådet (Sweden).

A series of poetry and music workshops  were held in May 2024 at elder centres and a special needs residence, to interact with live music performances. To create an original musical work for clarinet, cello, piano and electroacoustic extension, with the sound and rhythmic interventions of approximately 100 residents and professionals of disability and autonomy, recorded during 12 creative workshops.

The workshops were held at Établissement d'hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes Champrouge in Mazille, Association Bien Vieillir in Val de Joux and Maison d’Accueil Spécialisé Le Replat, in Bergesserin. The music was performed by cellist Vinicius Eliézer Lins, clarinettist Elio Moreau and pianist Juliana Steinbach.

The project was funded by Maison de la Musique Contemporaine, SACEM and Fondation Banque Populaire.

Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete will start an artistic residency at La clarière, a new centre for sound and art in Lunay (France), directed by French composer Colin Roche and visual artist Blandine Brière.

Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete finished the PhD studies at Lund University and became officially a PhD in Arts in Music Performance.

The official defense and presentation was made with a Final PhD exhibition, a guitar recital and a public defense with Jean-Marc Chouvel (Sorbonne University) as an opponent and an evaluation committee: Esther Venrooy, Staffan Storm and Andreas Broeckman.

Plastic Extension of Music, a new practice for music performance created by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete, is now an official course at Lund University in Sweden, that will be given by BCA as a Fristående Kurs.

In November 2023, an open workshop for musicians conceived by Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete started with the aim of creating a Plastic Extension of Music. The workshop included conferences, an Object-Based-Learning visit at Skissernas Museum and several meetings and reunions to discuss the projects and methodologies of the participants.

In the 2 of May, the exhibition at Inter Arts Center (IAC) will open with the Plastic Extensions created by musicians from Skåne during the workshop, including a live performance on 4 May with the pieces that are the source of the Plastic Extensions.
